About

Tim Acott is a lecturer in Sustainable Development and Environmentalism at the University of Greenwich. Tim initially studied for a BSc (Hons) Environmental Science at the University of Plymouth. He then moved to Scotland to study a PhD in developing novel methods to study microscopic properties of soils using digital imaging. His studies involved assessing the extent that digital images could aid landscape reconstruction of a multi-period archaeological site in North East Scotland. Directly after his PhD Tim was employed by the University of Greenwich to lecture on environmentalism and sustainable development. This lectureship allowed him to pursue his two passions - human impact on the landscape and how we understand the world around us. Over the last ten years Tim has gradually been developing a perspective that sees the importance of art and science coming together to provide new ways of exploring our relationship with the world. Reality is a complex phenomenon that refuses to be tied down to scientific analysis. Perhaps a part of nature’s reality can be glimpsed from the artist canvas or the photographer’s camera. The photographs and paintings on this site all have an accompanying caption designed to stimulate thought about the relationship between people and nature. Please email Tim with your thoughts and ideas. A selection of correspondence will appear on this website at regular intervals.
